A Dental Crown Procedure Can Fix Broken Teeth

Man | Dental Crowns Carlton OR

Your teeth were designed to handle chewing and breaking down food. Still, there are sometimes events that overtax the strength of your tooth enamel and result in a chipped, cracked, or fractured tooth. The break can be a result of an injury, teeth grinding, biting down on something unexpectedly hard, or chewing on ice. At Carlton Dental we recommend refraining from using your teeth as a tool to open or tear something apart, or chewing on hard objects that can increase the likelihood of chipping your tooth.

If you are in Carlton, OR and suffer from damage to your tooth enamel, please schedule a dental exam with our experienced dentist, Dr. Gambee. It’s crucial that you get your tooth repaired before cavities set on, or it develops further fractures.

Depending on the extent of the damage, Dr. Gambee might recommend a dental crown procedure to protect your existing tooth enamel.

What You Need to Know about Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are “caps” that cover and protect your entire tooth. They provide stability so that you can chew and speak comfortably. In fact, the dental crown aids in everyday functions, such as smiling, talking, eating, and chewing. Patients are able to care for their dental crowns by brushing and flossing regularly, making crowns an easily maintained dental prosthetic. With proper care and regular in-office check-ups, patients can expect to enjoy their dental crown for 10 to 15 years.

Dental crowns are shaded to match the rest of your existing teeth and blends in perfectly. They are undetectable and feel like your natural tooth.

What Can You Expect from a Dental Crown Procedure?

Dental crowns are very easy to place and only require two simple visits to our dental office. On your first visit, Dr. Gambee will determine your candidacy for the procedure. Your dentist will prepare your tooth for the dental crown by custom fabricating a mold of your teeth. Dr. Gambee will then place a temporary dental crown to protect your tooth until the permanent crown is manufactured. During the next visit to our dental clinic, your customized dental crown will be fitted and adjusted before being bonded to your tooth.
